Luce is a quartz-laced, metallic satin lime Venetian Plaster that creates lustrous, reflective wall surfaces with a distinctive two-tone finish. The combination of natural lime and quartz produces a surface that catches and reflects light in a way that changes throughout the day. Ideal for living areas, entry halls and commercial spaces where a glamorous but natural finish is wanted. Coverage: 11 to 14 square metres per 20kg bucket. Two-coat application. What Is Venetian Plaster? Carlos Explains

Venetian Plaster is a traditional Italian decorative finish made from aged slaked lime and marble. It's applied by trowel in thin layers and worked by hand, creating surfaces with natural depth and movement that paint can't replicate. Depending on the finish and technique, it can look like polished marble, soft velvet, travertine or textured stone.

The Decora Venetian Plaster System

Genuine Italian Venetian Plaster made from aged slaked lime and marble, hand-applied by trowel for finishes that range from high-gloss marble to velvet, travertine and textured stone.

Every finish follows the same system. It begins with one coat of Mineral Primer, diluted 20 to 30% with water and brushed or rolled over plasterboard, concrete, MDF, render or existing paint.

Its fine quartz texture gives the plaster something to grip. The plaster follows in two coats, or three for Ispegu, each shaped with a stainless steel trowel to create the finish. An optional Decora wax topcoat then protects the surface and deepens its character.

Coats and Coverage

Coverage is per 20kg bucket:

Ispegu: high gloss. 3 coats, 20 to 25m².
Carrara: smooth semi-gloss. 2 coats, 12 to 15m².
Canova: semi-gloss with mica. 2 coats, 12 to 14m².
Luce: smooth with a light metallic sheen. 2 coats, 11 to 14m².
Tatto: satin with a velvet touch. 2 coats, 11 to 14m².
Teseo: textured travertine. 2 coats, 10 to 12m².
Incanto: textured. 2 coats, 8 to 14m².

A 5kg tub of Mineral Primer covers roughly 26 to 35m².

Finish Thickness

Between 0.8 and 1.5mm, depending on the finish.

Performance

Highly breathable, with a water vapour permeability (Sd) of 0.06m. Naturally resistant to mould and bacteria. VOC below 0.01g/L. Non-flammable, rated Class A1.

Application Conditions

Between 5°C and 30°C, with relative humidity below 85% during application and for 24 hours after. In a humid Queensland summer, that usually means an early start and a well-ventilated room.

Drying and Curing

Let each coat dry completely before the next. Allow at least 6 hours at 20°C, and up to 12 in cool or humid weather. The surface is dry to handle after 48 hours, which is when a wax topcoat can go on. Lime keeps curing long after it looks finished, reaching full hardness at around six months.

Storage

Keeps for 24 months unopened, stored between 5°C and 30°C. Never allow to freeze.

What surfaces can Venetian Plaster be applied over?

Venetian Plaster can be applied over most properly prepared surfaces, including plaster, plasterboard, concrete, render and texture, masonry and existing painted walls. Correct preparation and priming are essential for good adhesion and a lasting finish. Venetian Plaster is designed for walls and decorative surfaces and is not suitable for floors.

Does Venetian Plaster require a primer?

Yes. Decora Venetian Plasters require the appropriate primer to ensure proper adhesion and even absorption. Decora Mineral Primer is recommended for most prepared surfaces, providing the ideal base for a durable and consistent finish. Old or dusty surfaces should be cleaned first, and glossy lime finishes lightly sanded.

Can Venetian Plaster be used in bathrooms and wet areas?

Yes, on bathroom walls, when the correct product, preparation and protective treatment are used. Venetian Plaster is naturally breathable, which suits humid rooms. If a surface will take direct water, such as inside a shower, speak with us before ordering. In any Australian wet area, the waterproofing required by the National Construction Code and AS 3740 must go on first.

Why can the finished colour and texture vary from the sample?

Because Venetian Plaster is hand-applied using natural mineral products, some variation is part of its character. Trowel technique, pressure, product thickness, drying conditions and lighting can all influence the final colour, movement and texture, meaning no two finishes will look exactly the same.

Can Venetian Plaster be used on floors or bench tops?

No. Venetian Plaster is designed for walls and decorative surfaces and isn't made to take foot traffic or daily wear. For a seamless floor, bench top or shower, look at our Decora Microcement range, which pairs beautifully with Venetian Plaster walls.

How should Venetian Plaster be cleaned and maintained?

Venetian Plaster requires minimal maintenance. Gently dust or wipe the surface with a soft, dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. For waxed finishes, a mild pH-neutral cleaner can be used if required. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and scrubbing, as these can damage the finish.

Does Venetian Plaster need to be sealed?

Not always. On low-contact interior walls, it can be left unwaxed to keep its natural look and breathability. In bathrooms, kitchens and busy hallways, a coat of Natural Wax, applied 48 hours after plastering, protects the surface, deepens the sheen and makes it easier to wipe clean. For day-to-day care, a soft, slightly damp microfibre cloth is all it needs.

Can Venetian Plaster be touched up or repaired?

Yes. Minor scratches, marks or localised damage can often be touched up or repaired using the same finish. For the best result, repairs should be carried out by an experienced applicator who can blend the colour and texture into the surrounding surface.

How soon after application can I clean a newly finished surface?

Allow at least 48 hours after the final coat, or 48 hours after waxing if a wax topcoat is applied, before cleaning. Lime continues to harden for around six months, so clean gently while it cures.

Why does every Venetian Plaster wall look different?

Because every wall is finished by hand from natural minerals. Trowel pressure, the number of passes, drying conditions and lighting all shape the final colour and movement, so no two walls are ever identical. That variation is the character of genuine Venetian Plaster, so view a physical sample in your room's light before choosing a colour.
