Finishes & Techniques
A finish for every surface
Polished marble, soft satin, raw stone and seamless Microcement. Discover the Decora finishes, the techniques behind them and where each one belongs.
A guide to Decora finishes
The technique is part of the finish
With lime plasters, the depth and sheen come from how the layers are applied and burnished, not from the product alone. Use this guide to find the character you are after, then talk to us about the complete system behind it.
01 Polished & satin
Polished, satin & smooth
Refined finishes with a soft sheen or a deep, glass like polish, suited to interior feature walls, living spaces and powder rooms.
Ispegu
A high gloss, marble like slaked lime finish built in three layers and burnished to a deep polish.
Carrara
Ultra smooth, with the soft depth and quiet sheen of polished marble.
Tatto
A velvet touch satin finish made with quartz sand and marble.
Luce
A satin finish with shimmering quartz that catches and moves with the light.
02 Textured & stone
Stone, texture & movement
Tactile finishes with the character of natural stone. Several are suitable for both interior and exterior walls.
Incanto
Slaked lime with marble aggregates and natural fibres for a soft, matte texture.
Petra
A fibrous slaked lime plaster with the layered depth of natural stone.
Teseo
The look of travertine, with a texture that can be carved or scratched for detail.
Canova
A semi gloss, coarse grain plaster with gold, silver or bronze mica.
Raffaello
An ultra fine lime and quartz plaster with a soft, chalky matte finish.
Intocalce
A breathable lime mortar in fine and medium grains, used as a base coat or as a finish in its own right.
03 Microcement & wet areas
Seamless surfaces for floors and wet areas
The Decora Diamond System is a complete Microcement system, applied over concrete, tile and other sound substrates for continuous floors, walls, showers and benchtops. In wet areas it is always installed over a compliant waterproofing membrane.
Diamond Floor Normal
The slightly coarser grade, for a surface with visible movement and a hand finished character.
Diamond Floor Fine
A finer grade for a smoother, more refined surface on walls, vanities and joinery.
Tadelakt
A Moroccan style hydraulic lime plaster with a soft, lustrous character, designed by Decora for bathrooms.
04 Metallics & effects
Metallics & decorative effects
Statement finishes for feature walls, joinery and commercial interiors, from velvet metallic sheens to real oxidised corten.
Era
A metallic paint with a three dimensional texture.
Infinity
A soft, velvety metallic with a subtle shimmer.
Rust.it
A true oxidation system: a metallic base, an activator and a protective top coat.
Concrete.it
The raw, architectural look of concrete, without the weight of it.
Techniques
How the character is created
The same four movements sit behind every Decora finish. How they are combined is what separates a quiet matte wall from a deep, reflective one.
-
01
Trowelling
Stainless steel trowels lay the material down in thin, controlled passes. The angle and pressure of the trowel set the movement of the finish.
-
02
Layering
Most finishes are built in two or three coats. Each layer adds depth, and the way the layers overlap creates the character of the wall.
-
03
Burnishing
Working the final coat with a clean trowel compresses the surface and brings up the sheen, from a soft satin to a high gloss.
-
04
Protecting
Natural Wax, Metal Wax or a Decora sealer protects the surface in wet, high traffic or exterior areas, and can add a subtle lustre or metallic tone.
