Microcement

What Decora Microcement is, where it can go and how it performs once sealed.

What is Microcement?

Microcement is a cement based coating applied by hand in thin layers, usually two to three millimetres once the full system is built up. It goes straight over the surface you already have, so there is no demolition and no grout lines. The result is one continuous, matte mineral surface that can run from the floor, up the wall and into the shower, and across bench tops, stairs and furniture.

Microcement is a system rather than a single product. Primer, base coats, finish coats and sealer work together, and the substrate has to be sound and properly prepared before anything goes on.

Can Microcement go over existing tiles?

Yes. Microcement bonds directly to tiles, which is one of the main reasons people choose it. The tiles stay where they are, grout lines are filled and levelled during preparation, and the finished surface has no joins. The tiles do need to be sound. Anything drummy, loose or lifting has to come up first, and the surface needs degreasing and priming before the base coats go on.

Is Microcement waterproof?

Microcement is highly water resistant once sealed, but it is not a waterproofing membrane and it does not replace one. In any Australian wet area, a compliant membrane must be installed first, as required by the National Construction Code and AS 3740. The membrane waterproofs the room and the sealer protects the finish. Sealed correctly over a compliant membrane, Microcement performs beautifully in showers and bathrooms.

Can Microcement be used outdoors or around a pool?

The Decora Diamond System is specified for interior walls, floors and bench tops, and One Primer is for interior use only. Microcement is not suitable for swimming pools, as chlorine breaks down the sealer over time. If your project is outdoors, speak with us before ordering so we can advise on the right approach.

What is the difference between Diamond Floor and Diamond Floor Fine?

Both belong to the same ready to use Diamond System, share the same primers and sealer, and are tinted through the Decora colour system. Diamond Floor Fine gives a smoother, softer finish, while Diamond Floor carries a little more texture and movement.

How soon can a Microcement surface be used?

Protect the surface for at least 24 hours after sealing. It reaches full hardness over the following 7 days, so keep heavy traffic and furniture to a minimum until then. In bathrooms and showers, keep the surface completely dry for the full 7 days.

Is Microcement slip resistant for commercial projects?

Microcement can be finished with an anti-slip seal. Slip resistance depends on the sealer and finish specified, so contact us with your project requirements and we will specify the right system and supply the documentation.

Venetian Plaster

How lime plaster differs from paint and Microcement, where it belongs and how to care for it.

What is Venetian Plaster and how is it different from paint?

Venetian Plaster is a lime based wall finish, built up in hand-applied layers of lime and marble dust. Paint sits on the wall as a flat colour, while Venetian Plaster creates real texture and depth that shifts with the light. It is also breathable and naturally mould resistant, which paint is not.

What is the difference between Venetian Plaster and Microcement?

Venetian Plaster is lime based and made to be looked at. Microcement is cement based and made to be walked on. If you want texture and depth on a wall, choose Venetian Plaster. If you want a seamless surface for floors, showers or bench tops, choose Microcement. Many bathrooms use both, with Microcement in the wet zone and Venetian Plaster on the dry walls.

What surfaces can Venetian Plaster be applied over?

Venetian Plaster can be applied over most properly prepared surfaces, including plaster, plasterboard, concrete, render, masonry and existing painted walls. It needs the right primer, and Decora Mineral Primer suits most prepared surfaces. Old or dusty surfaces should be cleaned first and glossy lime finishes lightly sanded. Venetian Plaster is not suitable for floors or bench tops.

Can Venetian Plaster be used in bathrooms?

Yes, on bathroom walls and ceilings, when the correct product, preparation and protective treatment are used. Lime is naturally breathable, which suits humid rooms, and it works particularly well on vanity walls and in powder rooms. Surfaces that take direct water, such as shower walls and splashbacks, are better served by Microcement, so speak with us before ordering for those areas.

Does Venetian Plaster need to be sealed?

Not always. On low contact interior walls it can be left unwaxed to keep its natural look and breathability. In bathrooms, kitchens and busy hallways, a coat of Natural Wax applied 48 hours after plastering protects the surface, deepens the sheen and makes it easier to wipe clean.

Will Venetian Plaster crack over time?

Not when it is applied properly over a well prepared substrate. Lime continues to harden for around six months and is more flexible than most people expect. Correct preparation and priming are the key to a lasting finish.

How do I clean and maintain Venetian Plaster?

Wait at least 48 hours after the final coat, or after waxing, before cleaning. After that, gently dust or wipe the surface with a soft, dry or slightly damp microfibre cloth. A mild pH neutral cleaner can be used on waxed finishes if needed. Avoid abrasive cleaners, harsh chemicals and scrubbing. Minor marks can often be touched up with the same finish by an experienced applicator.

Choosing the right products

Primers, quantities, colours and tools, so your order arrives right the first time.

Which primer do I need for Microcement?

It depends on the surface. Concrete takes one coat of DOC Primer. Tiles, ceramic, marble and granite take one coat of One Primer, as do wood, MDF and smooth painted surfaces. Uneven surfaces need two coats of Floor Level after priming, and wood and MDF always need them. Sealer choice depends on what the surface has to handle, so a bathroom floor, a bench top and a feature wall each call for something different. Tell us your substrate and the room and we will specify the full system.

How much Microcement or Venetian Plaster do I need?

Every Microcement and Venetian Plaster collection page has a coverage calculator. Enter your area and number of coats and it returns quantities for each stage, from primer to sealer, with a waste allowance built in. As a guide, a 20kg pail of Diamond Floor covers roughly 16 to 20m² across two coats, and a 5kg kit of Diamond Sealer covers roughly 25m² across two coats. Venetian Plaster coverage ranges from about 8 to 25m² per bucket depending on the finish. Textured surfaces, stairs and curved walls use more, so send us measurements and photos if the job is unusual.

How much do Microcement and Venetian Plaster cost?

Venetian Plaster is priced per bucket, and the finish you choose affects your cost as much as the size of the room, because coverage varies from finish to finish. Microcement is priced as a system, so budget for primer, base and finish coats and sealer rather than a single product. It is a higher upfront spend than lime plaster, and it buys a surface rated for floors and wet areas. The coverage calculator on each collection page gives you quantities you can price directly from the product pages.

How many colours are available?

The Decora Diamond Microcement system comes in 63 colours, and Venetian Plaster is available in 156 colours across the GL series. Some colours carry a tinting surcharge, which is shown when you select the colour.

Will the finished colour match the swatch?

On-screen swatches are a guide only, as every screen displays colour differently, and hand-applied finishes vary with technique, sealer and lighting. For a true read, order a colour sample brochure and view it in the room's natural light, or visit our Caloundra West showroom. Order tinted product for the whole job at once, as separate batches can vary slightly, and keep a note of your batch number.

What tools do I need to apply Microcement?

You will need a PVC trowel for the base coats, a stainless steel trowel for compacting and burnishing, a variable speed mixing drill with real torque, and an orbital sander for sanding between coats, ideally with M-Class dust extraction indoors. A 240x100mm trowel paired with a smaller spatula covers most residential work. The Decora Black Box trowel kit is the quickest way to get set up properly.

Can I apply Microcement or Venetian Plaster myself?

Small projects such as a bench top, a laundry or a single feature wall are realistic for a confident DIYer. Bathroom floors, showers and large open areas are not the place to learn. Venetian Plaster is less forgiving than it looks, because the depth and sheen come from how the layers are burnished. We run Decora certified training courses in Caloundra, and we take technical calls during a job whether you trained with us or not.

How should I store unused product?

Keep product in its sealed container, out of direct sunlight, above freezing and below 30 degrees. Lime and cement based products have a limited shelf life once opened, and product stored outside these conditions may not perform as intended.

Ordering and payment

Who we supply, how to pay and what to do if your order needs to change.

Do I need to be a tradie or have a trade account to buy?

No. We supply applicators, builders, designers and homeowners doing their own projects, with no trade account and no minimum order. We do suggest a quick call before you order, because five minutes on the phone can save the wrong primer arriving.

Who is MVP Products?

MVP Products is Queensland's authorised Decora distributor, supplying Microcement, Venetian Plaster, decorative finishes and professional tools from our warehouse and showroom in Caloundra West on the Sunshine Coast. Decora products are imported from Italy.

Decora product is imported from Italy, so occasionally an item will be unavailable. If that happens, we will contact you to arrange a partial dispatch, hold the full order, or refund the unavailable item, whichever suits you best.

Can I get safety data sheets and technical data?

Yes. Safety data sheets are available for every product in the Decora range, and technical data sheets are available for specification. Contact us and we will send through what you need for your site documentation.

Shipping and delivery

Where we ship, what it costs, how long it takes and how to collect.

Where do you ship?

We ship Australia wide, except Victoria. We don't currently ship to Victorian addresses or overseas. Orders are sent with Aramex from our warehouse in Caloundra West on the Sunshine Coast.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping is calculated at checkout based on the total weight of your order and your delivery postcode, so you will see the exact cost before you pay. Microcement and plaster are dense, heavy products, so we don't offer free shipping. For bulk or pallet quantities, contact us for a freight quote before ordering.

How long will my order take to arrive?

Orders are dispatched within 24 hours on business days. Metro deliveries typically arrive within one to three business days of dispatch, while regional and remote areas take longer. Tinted and custom mixed product is made to order, so allow extra time on colour matched orders. Carrier estimates are a guide only.

Can I track my order?

Yes. When your order is dispatched we will email you an Aramex tracking number so you can follow its progress.

Can you deliver to a PO Box or parcel locker?

No. Many of our products are heavy, so please provide a street address where someone can receive the delivery. If an order is returned to us because the address was incorrect or incomplete, a redelivery charge may apply.

What if no one is home when my order arrives?

The Aramex driver may leave your order in a safe place or follow their card and redelivery process. If you would rather it isn't left unattended, call us on 0423 410 429 before dispatch and we will request signature on delivery. We recommend this for heavy orders.

Can I collect my order instead?

Yes. Choose free Click and Collect at checkout and pick up from 1/9-11 Bronwyn Street, Caloundra West QLD 4551. We will email you when your order is ready, usually within 24 hours. Pickup hours are Monday 7am to 11am, Tuesday to Thursday 7am to 12pm, and Friday 7am to 11am, closed weekends and public holidays. Please bring your order number.

What if my order arrives damaged?

Please check your order as soon as it arrives. If anything is damaged, missing or incorrect, photograph the items and packaging before moving them and contact us within 48 hours with your order number, so we can lodge a claim with the carrier and make it right.

Returns and refunds

Because much of our range is tinted to order, returns are limited. Here is where we stand.

What is your returns policy?

Tools and accessories can be returned for a refund within 30 days of delivery, as long as they are unused, unopened and in their original packaging. Because of the nature of the product, and because much of the range is custom tinted to order, we are unable to accept change of mind returns on Microcement, Venetian Plaster or any custom tinted product. Read our full refund policy.

Can I return Microcement or Venetian Plaster?

Not for a change of mind. Every colour is tinted to order for your project. If you are unsure about a product or colour, order a colour sample or give us a call before you buy and we will gladly help you choose with confidence. This doesn't affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law.

How do I return a tool or accessory?

Contact us with your order number before sending anything back, on 0423 410 429 or carlos@mvpproducts.com.au. We recommend a tracked service, as items remain your responsibility until they reach us. Once we have received and checked the item, we will refund the purchase price to your original payment method.

Who pays for return shipping?

For change of mind returns, return shipping is at your cost and original shipping isn't refunded. If a product is faulty, damaged in transit, not as described or not what you ordered, we will cover reasonable return shipping costs.

What if my product is faulty?

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. If any product, including Microcement or Venetian Plaster, is faulty, damaged, not as described or not what you ordered, contact us with your order number and photos and we will arrange a repair, replacement or refund as required by law.
